Week 16 – “Intern Apocalypse”

They wanted to help. Instead, they summoned the network demons.

Monday – Arrival of the Chosen One

The intern showed up. Fresh polo. Brighter smile. No fear.

James muttered: “They always start like this.”
Josh handed him a clipboard. “You’ll be fine. Probably.”
Minh just handed him a static wrist strap and walked away.

Within two hours:

  • He “cleaned up” DHCP reservations by deleting them.
  • Labeled a switch “Thingy 1.”
  • Accidentally rebooted the HR server because he thought “Server01” was his laptop.

Drew whispered: “This is how the dark age begins.”

Tuesday – Plugged Into the Void

Intern plugged his personal gaming laptop into the core switch.

Network dropped for an entire wing.
Client: “Our copier just printed the Fortnite logo.”
James screamed: “WHY IS YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT ON THE DOMAIN?”

Yusuf traced the MAC address, found the culprit, and calmly yanked the cable.
Intern cried. Minh handed him a Snickers and silently restored the VLANs.

Wednesday – Mentor Meltdown

Josh tried to “mentor” the intern. Together they created a boot loop on a CEO’s laptop.

Client: “It says ‘Your PC ran into a problem’ and then it laughs?”
James: “THAT’S NOT NORMAL. THAT’S POSSESSION.”

Drew tried to reverse the damage. Accidentally deployed the company logo as the login screen background for every user.
Yusuf: “Looks kinda nice though.”

Thursday – Ticket Tectonics

The intern was assigned “safe” tasks.
He reset a password… for the entire department.
He cleaned the ticket queue… by deleting all open tickets.

Josh screamed into a filing cabinet.
James had to call three clients and apologize.
Minh restored the tickets from backup and labeled them “Phoenix Batch.”

Friday – Redemption (Sort Of)

Intern unplugged a mis-patched cable, fixing a two-day-old issue.

James: “…he just fixed something.”
Josh: “Did he… learn?”
Minh: “Snickers.”

They let him reboot a printer. It worked. He smiled. The office clapped once. Then stopped.

Epilogue – The Intern Lives

He survived. Barely. So did the network.
The intern now answers to “Patchling.”
Frank texted: “Don’t let him near switches. Learned that in ‘03.”
